Vigna reopens on 12 May 2023

Vigna reopens on 12 May 2023

We are pleased to announce the reopening of our panoramic restaurant Vigna, by the chef Valentine Davase. A child of the South, Valentine revisits her origins by signing a creative menu for Vigna. She blurs the lines between art and gastronomy by transposing the freshness and emotion of the vines to the plates. From starters to share to gourmet desserts: Mediterranean cuisine is revealed in its rawest and most festive expression. Vigna is a lively and warm restaurant in the heart of Provence. It is a gourmet and artisanal cuisine, with Mediterranean flavours, which is perfectly combined with our sumptuous vineyards which surround it. See you on 12 May 2023 for the reopening. For all information requests, please send an email to reservation@vignarestaurant.com

Obtaining the Organic Agriculture label for our vineyard.

Obtaining the Organic Agriculture label for our vineyard.

A whole year’s work to offer you the best of our terroir. We were looking forward to it...the 2020 vintage is now available in our store and it is organic! Our vineyard has obtained the Organic Agriculture label, after a three-year waiting period (conversion period necessary to obtain the AB label). This official certification indicates that our viticulture preserves as much as possible the balance of nature and confirms our approach to work for practices that are more respectful of the environment. Protecting the richness of biodiversity is one of our concerns, which is why we also work partly in biodynamics. It is important to strengthen the link between all the natural elements that make up our domain.

Backstage Harvest

Backstage Harvest

Escape and dive into the heart of our vineyard by discovering our latest video: https://youtu.be/4nnOzLEbyuk. Off the beaten track, nestled in the heart of the Var, our estate reveals itself to you in its generous and exceptional natural setting. This year our vineyard has encountered climatic hazards, notably hail in spring and drought with strong heat waves this summer, but the 2020 vintage looks very promising and is gradually being revealed in the wine cellar.

 Driving on stakes

Driving on stakes

Manual harvesting continues at La Martinette! In the early morning, our pickers picked the Clairettes from our plot worked in stakes. This is a method of harvesting that consists of supporting each vine stock with a wooden stake made of chestnut, acacia or pine wood firmly embedded in the ground.

Horn Silica (501)

Horn Silica (501)

Do you know the Horn Silica (501)? It is a biodynamic preparation that stimulates plant resistance by strengthening the epidermis of leaves and fruits. It is useful during prolonged hot and humid periods and is very effective against diseases. It is said that horn silica is materialized by light. In biodynamics, it becomes dynamic and then sprinkles upwards, creating a film in the sky, which serves to reflect and amplify the action of light and heat thanks to the mini horn silica crystals atomized in the air. Since 2013, La Martinette has adopted a philosophical approach towards organic agriculture. We seek to preserve the natural profiles of our soils, which is why we also work in biodynamics!

Blends

Blends

"Late autumn and early winter is the time of the year when the days shorten, when nature gradually falls asleep and the vineyard enters into its period of vegetative rest. This is when we commence our planning for the following year in the vineyards with the start of the pruning.

Château La Martinette’s new cellars are in keeping with its remarkable history and the beauty of its terroir!

On 29 and 30 June this year, the team at Château La Martinette celebrated the official inauguration of their new cellars.

The Sommellerie Association of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region of France visited us at the domaine

The French Sommellerie Association for the PACA region returned to visit the domaine. They were given a tour of Château La Martinette’s new cellars and were treated to a country picnic in the shade of the domaine’s forest. One of the world’s most renowned sommeliers, Pietro Santanino, was present and it was a pleasure for us to have him taste our wines and share his opinion of them. “The way you present your wines is both unique and flawless! It is a great honour to have the opportunity to taste the distinctive wines from Château La Martinette" declared Mr Santanino in his delightful Italian accent!

Disbudding and shoot binding in the vineyards in May

Disbudding and shoot binding in the vineyards in May

No less than 8 people work together 6 days a week in the vineyards in order to select the shoots that will bear the future clusters of grapes and aerate the vegetation in order to ensure perfect health conditions and to simplify the pruning for the following winter. This crucial, highly technical and very complex practice helps to reduce the load on the vine thereby avoiding unnecessary exhaustion. Our team has been trained on methods that respect the sap flow and we prefer to use an attentive approach rather than to go for high yields that would only be detrimental to the future of the vine.

Ploughing in April

Ploughing in April

Ploughing in April The horses have now returned to our massal selection vineyards (Clairette, Syrah and Mourvèdre) to plough the soils at the base of the vine, a process that is carried out by tractor in our other plots. This highly technical practice aims to remove as much of the grass around the base of the vine as possible without damaging the vine stock.

Wine ageing in egg-shaped concrete tanks

Wine ageing in egg-shaped concrete tanks

The Château’s white wine was aged in egg-shaped concrete tanks, as was the 2017 vintage. These eggs respect the golden number and are particularly well suited to a biodynamic approach to winemaking.
